Your options

Should we hire an AI consultancy, train our staff, or build it ourselves?

It depends on what is blocking you. If people have never really used the tools, train them. If you have spare engineers and one clear workflow, build in-house. If the tools are in place, usage is shallow and nobody has decided how work should change, a consultancy that redesigns one workflow with the team that owns it is the better fit. If the blocker is data or security, fix that before spending on any of the three.

Train the team

When it fits. People have not tried the tools yet, or use them rarely. A few hours of guided practice on their own work is cheap and often enough.

When it does not. It stops working once people are confident but the workflow still routes the old way. Skills go up, results do not.

Build it in-house

When it fits. You have engineers with spare capacity and a clear, single workflow to automate. Nobody outside will know your work better.

When it does not. It struggles when the real question is who decides and who reviews. That is an organisational choice, and a build team cannot make it alone.

Hire an AI consultancy

When it fits. The tools are in place, usage is shallow, and leadership has not yet agreed what people should own and what AI should carry.

When it does not. It is the wrong spend if the blocker is data access, security sign-off or a missing owner. Fix those first.

What is Wayborne?

Wayborne is an AI operating-model consultancy in London for UK companies of 30 to 250 people. We work with leadership on what people should own and what AI can carry, then redesign one workflow with the team that owns it and prove it with a working prototype. We do not resell software.
